Noxious Weed Act 1993 declared that Rhus is a noxious plant and it must be controlled. The responsibilities under the Act are laid on to the Local government councils for overseeing that the noxious plant provisions are enforced.
The local councils initiate the actions to control the planting of the rhus trees especially on private lands, the council can enter these lands and remove the plants themselves. If the occupier of the land failed to control the growing of the noxious plant, notice will be given and court actions will be served.
